Fourth Annual JwJ and VOZ Solidarity Salsa Party Saturday

Many of you know we have been working to support
VOZ, Workers’ Rights Education Project,
in its organizing efforts with day laborers.
For the past three years we have joined with them in a solidarity salsa
party to bring together individuals that are a part of and support both
of our
organizations for dancing, fun and fundraising.
This year, the Day Labor Center, newly named the Martin Luther King Jr
Worker Center turned one year old. With
this historic opening, Portland has joined the ranks of other US cities
that
have successfully used day labor sites as alternatives to street corner
hiring. In these hard economic times,
the MLK Worker Center gives Portland’s day laborers a safe and secure
place to
seek decent employment, and help in the fight to raise the bar for all
workers.
This year's Salsa Party will be fun for
everyone, and will include dance lessons, food and a silent auction.
You can help by spreading the word, and
helping to sell tickets. The tickets are $15 in advance and $20at
the door. They include admission to the
event, food and dance lessons. To more information or to purchase a
ticket call Eliana at 503-236-5573.
