Legal Observer Training to support Immigrant and Day Laborer Rights
¡OJO! stands for Observadores para Jornaleros de Oregon. It is a joint
community project to observe and document police and ICE activity at
the corner of 6th and Burnside where many day laborers wait for work.
We do this both to stand in solidarity with those on the corner and to
deter potential police and ICE misconduct. ¡OJO! kicked off in early
March and we currently strive to have observers out every weekday
morning from 7 to 9 a.m. Increasing raids nationally, Department of
Homeland Security vehicle sightings in the area, and increased day
laborer presence in the
summer months make now the time to come out and support the corner.
The training will cover your rights and the police as well as
the nuts and bolts of legal observing on the corner -- everything to
prepare you to safely and effectively observe police and ICE agents.
We hope to see you June 16!
