Two Dates: Sept. 18 and 19 - Making Change at Walmart Campaign Briefing & Discussion
Making Change At Walmart is a campaign challenging Walmart to help rebuild our economy and strengthen working families. Anchored by United Food & Commercial Workers, we are a coalition of Walmart associates, union members, small business owners, religious leaders, women's advocacy groups, community groups, multi-ethnic coalitions, elected officials, and ordinary citizens who believe that changing Walmart is vital for the future of our country.
17 new Walmart stores are scheduled to open in the greater Portland-Vancouver area! Walmart costs US taxpayers an estimated $1 billion dollars a year subsidizing low wages and benefits.
Walmart is at the top of the list of Oregon employers whose workers receive food stamps and/or state subsidized medical coverage.
What is the impact of 17 new Walmart stores on the economic health of our communities and standards for Oregon's working people and taxpayers?
The Northwest Oregon Labor Council, Jobs With Justice & the United Food and Commercial Workers invite you to a campaign briefing by the Making Change at Walmart Campaign. A National Delegation Tour of Walmart worker leader and community supporters will lead a discussion and update on the current campaign.
It's time for Walmart and the Walton's to use their considerable power in a different way - to make changes that will improve-not tear down-the lives of workers and our communities.
