Midnight Strike Gains Large Crowd of Supporters
ULP strike hits hard
(Portland - 12/4/2005) -- When McCall Oil workers walked off the job last night at midnight, they were cheered by close to 100 supporters. The late night and upbeat crowd formed a large picketline and marched to the beat of the No War Drum Corps. Workers walked off the job in response to a complaint issued by the NLRB, National Labor Relations Board. The company is charged with bargaining in bad faith. Workers have been in negotiations for months in an attempt to obtain a first contract. The company appears to be engaged in a union busting campaign even though the workers have repeatedly shown that they unanimously support the union and the contract drive.
