Guerilla Leafletting at Fred Meyer
Activists leaflet customers at Fred Meyer in support of workers facing increased costs.
To support Fred Meyer workers who have been offered a contract that would cost most employees $150 a month, Jobs with Justice activists took over the Hollywood store on a very busy Halloween day and passed out 500 flyers to customers.
Tough Economic Times?
As everyone cuts back in these tough times, more people are eating at home---sending Fred Meyer's profits soaring. Last quarter, parent company Kroger's net income was $255 million. In 2008, CEO David B. Dillon received $10,446,301 in total compensation.
Goldman Sachs analyst John Heinbockel described
Kroger as "a calm port in a storm" amid current U.S. consumer weakness. "A very impressive performance compared with virtually any other retailer," he said.
Fred Meyer is taking their good financial fortune and trying to make it better by squeezing even more pennies out of their workers.
And two weeks ago, when union organizers went to the Hillsboro store t
o update workers on the contract negotiations, Fred Meyer had them arrested!
