8th Annual Faith Labor Breakfast
The breakfast celebrates and builds on the long tradition of shared values in the struggle for justice and the common good. Particulary, in these difficult economic times, as workers' struggle to maintain health benefits, jobs and wages, workers need community support. Our communities need workers to fight these battles as they affect the standard of living for all of us.
Please join us on February 23, 2010 from 7:15-9:30am. The breakfast will be held at St. Philip Neri Parish Hall located at 2408 SE 16th Ave. The cost will be $10.00 per person but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Last year, over 100 clergy, labor leaders, union members and other justice seekers came to explore our need for each other in order to have power to create a just environment. We celebrated the victory of the Republic Door and Window workers who took over their workplace when the owner tried to shut down the factory in Chicago. Their courageous action was supported by community, faith and other unionist thereby gaining the attention of the whole country and bringing about a just resolution. Our discussions explore lessons from this event that we could apply to local struggles and local workers.
This year the theme is Workers in Struggle for the Common Good. Current contract struggles will be held up and way to join together to improve the lives of all in our community will be explored against the background of a giant win for workers in Honduras at the Russell Athletic Company factory.
You and others are important for this discussion to be meaningful.
Please contact Brenda Sifuentez at Portland Jobs with Justice if you have any questions or want to learn more about our role in improving our communities' participation in the Common Good.
