Portland Jobs with Justice Denounces Attacks on Public Employees in Wisconsin
Plan for Protests: March 15, April 16, May 1, and more...

Tonight, Wisconsin State Senators passed a bill stripping public workers of their collective bargaining rights. They did this through procedural motions that make a mockery of our democracy. Governor Walker and the Republicans acted in violation of state open meetings laws, and tonight’s events have demonstrated they will do or say anything to pass their extreme agenda that attacks Wisconsin’s working families. Furthermore, it shows that they have been lying throughout this entire process and that none of the provisions that attacked workers’ rights had anything to do with the budget, they’re about corporate CEOs using politicians to make sure that nothing gets in the way of their ability to bring home huge paychecks and even bigger bonuses.
In Wisconsin, and across the country, people are fighting back. Right now, Wisconsin’s capitol remains occupied as students and workers wait for the assembly to begin tomorrow. There is talk of a general strike. Portland Jobs with Justice stands in solidarity with those resisting in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana and across the country—additionally, we will be organizing rallies and marches in response:
On Tuesday, March 15, workers, students, community, and faith leaders will hold solidarity actions across Ohio and across the country. In Portland, people will rally at Terry Shrunk Plaza, SW 3rd and Madison, at 5pm.
In addition, unemployment remains high, while politicians threaten cuts to the social safety net. To that end Portland Jobs with Justice is organizing a massive mobilization for jobs and workers' rights on April 16, 12pm at Pioneer Square.
