Health Care For All Oregonians - May 13 Hearing

'Obamacare' has not solved the health care crisis. The cost of insurance continues to skyrocket; medical bills remain the leading cause of personal bankruptcy; an estimated 45,000 people die in this country every year because they could not afford to get treatment when they needed it.

We need a real solution. HB 2922, the Affordable Health Care for All Oregon Act, would replace private health insurance with a publicly funded system which guarantees everyone access to care. All essential treatment would be covered. We would be free to choose our health care providers. Eliminating the middlemen (insurance companies) would end the administrative bureaucracy which wastes one-third of our health care dollars and prevents thousands of Oregonians from getting the care they need.

The House Health Care Committee is holding hearings on HB 2922 on May 13.  SAVE THE DATE! The February 4 rally was a great start with over 1000 people attending, but now we need a good turnout of red-shirted enthusiasts to support the experts who will testify.

Where:

Oregon State Capitol, 900 Court St NE, Salem OR 97301

Schedule:

9:30 a.m. training for lobbying, Room 50

10-12 a.m. lobby legislators

12-1 p.m. lunch on your own

1-2:45 p.m. hearing, Room E

Come early to lobby or arrive by 12:30 to attend the hearing. For carpooling from Portland, click here.

Solidarity Calendar - April 2013

The idea is to list all the information that is shared at our monthly Steering Committee—now it’s all here in one place, for folks to use in their union newsletters, church bulletins, email lists, or just to stick up on the fridge. (Apologies in advance for any accidental omissions; please check with event organizers to confirm any details, or call JwJ 503-236-5573)...

Celebrate Margaret!

Celebrate Margaret - image

It is with great sadness that Portland Jobs With Justice bids farewell to our Executive Director Margaret Butler on February 15th.  Through her hard work and dedication to the movement, Margaret has been an inspiration to so many people in Portland and further afield.

But Margaret isn't going without a party!  Please join us at the First Unitarian Church on Saturday March 2nd and help us celebrate all that that she has done on so many issues that we care about, and the well earned break that she is now able to take!

Light food and bring your dancing shoes.

Tickets are $20 (no one turned away)

Call JWJ on 503-236-5573 for advance tickets and info.
